Growing up with sailing and surrounded by golden beaches on the East Coast, Susannah Tuminelli has travelled a long way, when she now starts on the trail.

In March last year, Iditarod mushers were chased down the trail by a pandemic. Now, 12 months later, the world is still in the midst of the disease.

The Swiss born Martin Buser (62) lines up for his 38th Iditarod race this year. The Wayne Gretzky of dog sledding, has been inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.

In the aftermath of cancelling this year’s edition of Femundløpet, organisers and sponsors put together the alternative online competition – Norway’s Toughest Dog. And what a support from the community! 

Even though this year’s race had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be winners. And the prize is no less than 1000 kg dog food. The famous Norwegian dog trainer Maren T. Rørvik leads the jury. 

As a fantastic way of thanking the everlasting effort from the organisers of Beargrease 2021, the mushers put on the most thrilling final sprint in the history of the race. In the end, only 7 seconds separated 1st and 2nd.

The 2nd day of Beargrease is done and dusted. The mushers have made their way from Finland through Sawbill and Trail Center twice, before reaching Skyport. The fight for the lead is as tough as it gets!

In 2020 the Norwegian biotech company Aker BioMarine teamed up with some of the world’s greatest sled dog events, The Iditarod, John Beargrease Sleddog Marathon, Femund Race and Volga Quest to create QRILL Pet Arctic World Series (QRILL PAWS.)

“The mission of the John Beargrease Sled Dog marathon is to conduct the best long distance sled dog race in North America in a culturally sensitive manner, and to promote the sport of dog mushing.”

Despite challenging time for race organizers all over the world, we are finally about to launch what we have been working on for months - QRILL PAWS 2021 IS READY TO ROLL!

While the big long-distance races of the season are approaching rapidly, some smaller races have also been taking place in 2021. The second weekend of the year, Copper Basin 300 was held in the wilderness of Alaska. The race took the mushers on a 300 mile loop, starting and finishing in Glennallen.

January 21st 2021, the Norwegian Directorate of Health has decided that Femundløpet 2021 can not take place as planned.

The moment we have been awaiting for weeks and months is finally here – race season 2021! This past weekend, the first race on the Norwegian calendar took place in the winter-dressed woods of Norway. Even with strict Covid-19 regulations, Mush Synnfjell was a great success.

The four-part QRILL PAWS Documentary 2020 is being showcased on the Chinese broadcaster Huya during Christmas. We are more than ready to welcome all new fans of our beloved sport.

The world’s northernmost sled dog race, Finnmarksløpet, will once again be held in the breathtaking areas in the northern parts of Norway in 2021. They are sharing their plans for a Covid-friendly race.

Normally, the Yukon Quest goes between Fairbanks, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon, crossing the Canadian-American border. Due to the current pandemic, travel restrictions and border closures, the Yukon Quest 2021 has been cancelled.

The Corona pandemic has been a showstopper for the majority of sports and cultural events in Norway since March. Finally, Femundløpet has received approval from the Norwegian Directorate of Health to hold the race in 2021. The planning process is well underway.
